Printmaking 2 I 1/ SELF-DIRECTED EXPLORATION

My theme is about Vietnamese culture, specially is about all Vietnamese fairly tail that I hear when I was a child and want to bring all of that into my artwork as a series. I making selection to from all of my knowledge and decide to choice “ The Breast milk” ( Sự tích cây vú sữa). The story telling the love of a mother is priceless, and child should respect their mother

I study from my home country technique in printmaking when they will using red background as the main subject but this technique record to be extinct due to many factor which I want revied. I also during some experiment with background using ink flow

SELF-DIRECTED EXPLORATION- Final work

My final work, I like my outcome as I see my technique of craving are development than when I was in print 1. My only improve is working on cleaning the edging, not leave any ink on the edge. the difficulty during the process are some area not inking enough.

I still continuing my series, choice my next fairly tail called “ Tấm Cám”; a “Cinderella” Vietnamese version and going through my idea about composition. Tấm mean broken/ nothing, Cám represent the greed

I ran through some of my knowledge about a Vietnamese folk mythology. After I went through the selection of various art picture, I see the “ Apollo in the Forge of Vulcan“ remind me the “Thánh Gióng” one of the 4 immortal folk mythology represent the spiritual fight against the evil/ colonist. his famous quota: “Ông về tâu với vua, đúc cho ta một con ngựa bằng sắt, làm cho ta một bộ áo giáp bừng sắt, và rèn cho ta một cái roi cũng bằng sắt, ta nguyện phá tan lũ giặc này.” translate “You go back and tell the king, cast me an iron horse, make me a set of iron armor, and forge me a whip also made of iron, I vow to destroy these enemies.”

After looking all 12 pieces, each print carries its own atmosphere and narrative, yet they collectively express my exploration of chaos, beauty, and the constant flux of life. This project not only helped me refine my technical skills but also deepened my understanding of visual storytelling through abstraction. All the pieces content a Vietnamese culture and elements.

Printmaking 2 I 5/ REDUCTION LINOCUT EXPLORATION

I expanding my idea to the folk culture and religion and I got the attention from “Đạo Mẫu” translate mean worship the mother goddess. “Cô Đôi Thượng Ngàn” is one of the 4 mother goddess ( The Four Palaces - Tứ Phủ) well-know in Vietnamese community through the song under her name. As a goddess, she more closer to mortal, and having a positive energy. She also knowledgeable in music and poetry and willing sharing with other mortal scholars. She is the guardian of granary lộc Sơn Lâm Sơn Trang, blessing to the good one and punish to the wicked.After looking all 12 pieces, each print carries its own atmosphere and narrative, yet they collectively express my exploration of chaos, beauty, and the constant flux of life.
